Not “postscript,” but Plow & Sift.

The “Plow”: digging up what’s been buried

Luke 9:62, Jesus says, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

Putting your hands to the plow speaks to commitment—moving forward with purpose, even when the work is hard. In many ways, counseling can feel like that kind of work. We often have to dig into the past—not to stay there, but to understand what shaped us. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can leave deep marks, especially when we didn’t have the support, safety, or words to deal with what happened at the time. Counseling offers a safe place to talk openly and to express thoughts and feelings that may have been held captive for years.

The “Sift”: separating, testing, and purifying

Luke 22:31:“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat.”

Sifting is a process of separating—shaking loose what doesn’t belong, bringing what’s hidden to the surface, and refining what remains. In healing work, sifting can look like gently pulling out the things that hurt us—things we weren’t ready or able to face before.

Sometimes that means learning to:

  • say it (name what happened)

  • see it (recognize its impact)

  • feel it (allow the emotions space)

  • think about it (make meaning and move forward)

Over time, this process can lead to freedom—freedom from the pain and suffering those experiences have carried.

Hope: forward focus for a new season in life

Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Whether or not faith is part of your story, many people find that healing includes reconnecting with what grounds them—purpose, values, supportive relationships, and hope for the future. For me, faith in Jesus Christ is a meaningful part of that hope, and I also welcome clients from all backgrounds.

If you’ve been carrying things for a long time, counseling can be a safe place to work through anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. A starting place to begin again, carefully and safely, so you can move forward with clarity and hope.
